The purpose of a pond skimmer is to remove leaves, twigs, and other debris that would normally accumulate on the surface of the pond, or inside your mechanical filter in the middle of you Calgary gardens pond. A pond skimmer not only provides a filter basket and a secondary mechnical filtration mat, but pond skimmers also provide housing for your pump. Since a pond skimmer filter is conveniently located beside your pond, you will never have to wade into the middle of your pond to adjust your pump or clean your filter.
5 Steps to properly Install Algreen’s Pond Skimmer.
1. Create a hole near your pond keeping in mind that’s it is a bit larger than the pond skimmer in order to accommodate the pond skimmer box. You must assure that the hole that you dig is properly leveled and compact in nature. Make sure that you level the pond skimmer box from side to side and front to back. After you’re finished, the normal water level should not be more or less then ¾” to 1 ½” below the top of the weir opening.
2. By holding the liner against skimmer opening such that 1 inch extension is allowed above the top of skimmer box, connect the pond skimmer to pond liner. A small sack liner can be allowed beneath the weir opening.
3. Weir can now be reassembled with the pond liner and skimmer box making sure that it lies between skimmer box and weir assembly. Top two corner mounting holes need to be located. Locate pre-drilled weir plate and liner after which you need to use a nail or awl to carefully punch hole where the mounting screws are present. Insert the blackened screws and check alignment. The pond liner should fit comfortably.
4. Start by this dissembling and applying a silicon sealant that is fish safe around the weir opening and follow by screwing holes to reassemble your pond filter. Insert screws and tighten nuts in the following order — 1. Top two corners, 2. Bottom two corners, 3. Remaining holes.
5.Take the two barb-head fittings that are provided and tightly screw them into the bulkhead fitting in the back of the pond skimmer filter. Behind the basket and filter mat, a skimmer can also be connected to a waterfall pump.
Using non-kink tubing and clamps (purchase separately) connect the tubing to the barb-head fitting and secure with a clamp.
